Our Story

The AASHLi Foundation evolved from the AASHLi Project—a peer-support network founded on a revolutionary principle: neurodivergent people are best served by other neurodivergent people who understand our struggles from direct experience.

Legal Structure & Governance

The AASHLi Foundation is incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under the laws of the State of New Jersey, organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Corporation's duration is perpetual, and its management is vested in a Board of Trustees.

As required of 501(c)(3) organizations, no substantial part of the Foundation's activities involves attempting to influence legislation, and the Foundation does not participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office.

Our Charitable Purposes

• Support, Housing & Employment — Develop, implement, and maintain innovative support services, housing solutions, and employment opportunities for neurodivergent individuals, with a focus on adults with ADHD, autism, and related neurodevelopmental conditions
• Public Education — Conduct educational activities that increase public understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity
• Assistive Technology — Advance the development of assistive technologies and methodologies that enhance the independence, safety, and quality of life of neurodivergent individuals
• Oversight of Subsidiary Programs — Oversee, coordinate, and provide strategic direction for all subsidiary programs and entities, including The AASHLi Project and The AASHLi House
• Lawful Incidental Activities — Engage in any and all lawful activities incidental to the foregoing purposes

Fiscal Accountability

The Foundation's Articles of Organization require that, should the Corporation ever dissolve, its assets be distributed exclusively for exempt purposes under Section 501(c)(3), or to federal, state, or local government for public purposes—never to private individuals. This permanent charitable-asset lock holds regardless of who leads the organization at any given time.

Affiliate Organizations

The AASHLi Foundation maintains a Fiscal Sponsorship agreement with Lunablackgamehub.com (L'unablack RetroGaming), formalizing a shared operational relationship between the two organizations.

Badr Pearson and Antoinette Jones are co-founders of both The AASHLi Foundation and Lunablackgamehub.com.

The First Neurodivergent-Designed Augmentative & Alternative Communication Device

EkoLunia carries out the Foundation's charitable purpose of advancing assistive technologies that enhance independence, safety, and quality of life for neurodivergent individuals. As our community puts it: "We need a device made WITH us, not FOR us."

Financing options and voucher programs support access across many circumstances. For reference, Tobii Dynavox does not publish an official retail price for the TD Pilot; publicly visible figures place it in the range of approximately $10,500–$12,000 depending on vendor and funding source.

Where We Are Today

EkoLunia is in active development, refined through direct feedback from beta testers, and is heading into a clinical trial with a speech-language pathology (SLP) clinic. Clinical trial completion and medical registration are still pending — unlike some established competitors that already hold Speech Generating Device certification.

ND³: National Developmental Disabilities Database

The First Centralized Platform for State-by-State Disability Services

ND³ furthers the Foundation's purpose of developing and maintaining support services for neurodivergent individuals and their families nationwide.

A single, searchable platform compiling federally mandated DD services from every state. One database. No more calling 50 agencies separately.

Why It Exists

Neurodivergent individuals and families are too often left to navigate fragmented, inconsistently maintained service systems. ND³ was built to eliminate conflicting or outdated information, inaccessible provider websites, hidden eligibility barriers, and the default assumption that a parent or guardian is always the one searching on someone else's behalf.

ND³ operates as a dual-portal platform: a public-facing member portal for individuals and families, and a separate agency-facing portal with 13 dedicated sections for service providers and coordinators, built on a verified Developmental Disabilities Council contact dataset for accuracy nationwide.

AASHLi Peer Support Services

Professional Support FROM People With Lived Experience

These offerings carry out The AASHLi Project's chartered mandate to provide peer support counseling and employment services.

Why This Exists

Once diagnosed neurodivergent adults age out of pediatric services — or are never formally diagnosed due to barriers in the medical system — daily support options largely disappear, and what remains is often expensive, physically inaccessible, or delivered by well-meaning professionals without lived experience of how neurodivergent people actually experience the world. The AASHLi Project pairs each client directly with a peer: someone who relates to the issue firsthand, not just professionally.

The same gap shows up in employment. Neurodivergent adults are frequently fully capable — sometimes overqualified — yet interviewing processes and typical workplace environments create barriers that have nothing to do with ability. Blanket accommodations rarely work, because what helps one neurodivergent person can be unnecessary or even unhelpful for another; solutions have to be individualized, not standardized.
